We are a small, young family farm specializing in pastured meats. We moved to Saranac and began to farm our land in an effort to supply our family with healthier food. Now we are excited to share some of our "extras" with local customers. We plan to stay small, adding a few types of vegetables and a few more animals each year as demand increases. We currently raise pigs and chickens. We have an egg CSA for those who would like weekly free range (pastured chicken) eggs. We often offer any surplus from our garden for purchase, as well, at our summer/fall farmstand.
We seek to be as natural as possible in all our practices and pest management. Our overall goal is to be simple, and so we are not aiming to become certified organic, but to use organic practices on our farm whenever possible, similar to what you would do in your own home garden. In our vegetable fields, to minimize weeds and enhance soil, we use cover crops (such as growing buckwheat or rye on parts of our fields not being used) and barrier mulches or natural mulches (straw, grass clippings). We seek to raise the best tasting (usually heirloom) vegetables as strong, healthy plants are more resistant to disease/insect pressure. We strive to be "no-spray," which means potentially less chemicals than some certified organic products. If you would like to know more, we will be open about discussing any crop specific practices with you. Just ask.
We have custom (pre-orders of 1/4s or 1/2s) available each fall. At the peak of the season (July-September), we have some vegetables available throughout the week at our farmstand, open most Saturdays and Sundays (as well as additional weekdays, typically Tuesday and Thursdays) in July-early September. You can always contact us if you'd like to make sure we are open, or to have us gather items for a farm order pickup. Contact us on Facebook or call us at 293-7565 anytime.
